Cylinder Mower Sharpener FAQs

What is meant by ‘cutting width’?

It’s the straight-across measurement from one side of the cylinder blades to the other, not along the curve of the blades themselves.

Can I use a 12″ sharpener on a 14″ cutting width mower by moving it along?

No. Moving the sharpener will sharpen the cylinder blades unevenly and compromise the cutting edge. Always match the sharpener to your mower’s cutting width.

My mower size isn’t listed on the website. What should I do?

Choose the next size up. The aluminium can be easily cut down to the exact size you need with a metal saw. Full instructions are included with every product.

Shear & Scissor Sharpener FAQs

Is the tungsten carbide sharpening block replaceable?

No, but it’s built to last. It will sharpen many pairs of shears and typically performs well for at least three full seasons before any drop in performance.

Secateur & Lopper Sharpener FAQs

How long does the abrasive last?

It will resharpen 12–15 fully blunt secateurs. The abrasive is not replaceable, but given its lifespan it represents strong value over time.

Drill Bit Sharpener FAQs

Can I use this with a cordless drill?

Yes. Bear in mind that cordless drills run at a lower speed than mains drills, so sharpening will take a little longer but the results are the same.

Chainsaw Sharpening Kit FAQs

How do I choose the right size kit for my chainsaw?

Check your instruction manual – it usually states the pitch. If not, look at any three consecutive rivets on your chain and measure the distance in inches between the centres of the two outer rivets (ignoring the middle one). Divide that measurement by two. For example, if the measurement is ½”, the pitch is ¼”.

How long will the files last?

The round file typically lasts two full gardening seasons, depending on your chainsaw length and number of cutters. The flat file will last considerably longer – many years of regular use. Replacement files are available in our shop.

2-in-1 Knife & Scissor Sharpener FAQs

Are the carbide sharpening heads replaceable?

Yes – the knife sharpening head is replaceable. Contact us directly and we’ll sort that for you. The scissor sharpening carbide is not replaceable.

Whetstone Chisel & Plane Blade Sharpener FAQs

Why is water-cooling important?

When sharpening against a dry grinding wheel, the blade edge can overheat rapidly. This causes the steel to lose its temper – its structural strength – resulting in bluing and the need to regrind from scratch. Water-cooling prevents this entirely, protecting your tools and your time.

Can I use this with a cordless drill?

Yes, though the lower speed of a cordless drill means sharpening will take slightly longer than with a mains drill.
